Balinese Wedding

Weddings in Indonesia are as varied as they are anywhere in the world and the wedding of my friends Leah and Mike was no exception.

In their case they wanted a small, quiet wedding and so it was that 6 guests; Mike's Mum Nora and Dad Ken, Stewart and Lauren plus Uchiel and myself, joined them in a private Balinese villa on the outskirts of Ubud.
Never missing the opprtunity to get dressed up for a wedding, all of the guys wore traditional sarong while the ladies all sported beautifully coloured dresses.

The setting for the wedding was truly serene. The villa is called Uma Stana and is set in its own grounds looking out over rice paddies and we could see homemade kites circling above us manned by unseen children on the rice terraces.

The villa has 4 rooms, a private pool and a communal lounge/dining area and it was our luck that in such a verdant area of Bali the rain held off for the duration of the weekend.

It was a real priviledge to be a part of this event and one that we will cherish forever.
